3 Things I Wish I’d Done Differently When Choosing a Career Path
Good day, thank you for joining me today. The last seven years I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone, or shall I say out of the zone of the expectations of society and boy is my life better for it. How so? You may be asking. Let me share with you my little (or not so little) secret.
What I longed for as a child and young woman graduating college…
Acceptance by those in my life, both professionally and personally no matter the cost to me. By taking this stance I ignored my inner voice and went into the business world as an administrative assistant. While I have held interesting jobs throughout the last 30 years and have connected with fabulous people, nothing really truly sang to my inner authenticity. I do embrace the fact that each choice that I’ve made has led me to the path I am now embracing. And I thank the Universe for the guidance along the way even when I appeared to have ignored the signs.
My long ago shelved desires of pursuing a career in one of the below and in parenthesis what was instilled in me and held me back:
- A reporter (you can’t truly make money doing this to support yourself)
- A hairdresser (so many people are doing this, do something with more stability)
- A chiropractor (your grades aren’t good enough to pursue this)
The 3 things I wish I’d done differently when choosing my career path:
- Not listen to what others expectations were for me and steering me in their direction of choice.
- Not allowing others thoughts to develop into my inner naysayer and truths, hence stopping me in my tracks.
- Not listen to the advice of my so-called high school guidance counselor when he said I was not meant for college nor should I expect to make decent money. Yes, he did say this and needless to say, my mother marched right into his office and blasted him a new one. Thanks mom!
Fast forward to 2014 when I began to unearth my long ago squashed desire to bloom into the person I truly am… a Reiki Master Teacher and Mystic Turquoise Energy Healer.
Interestingly, a Reiki Master Teacher is a service type career, much like a reporter, hairdresser, and chiropractor. No surprise there! As I released the inner naysayer and beliefs of others from my mindset, through journaling, meditation, spirituality classes, and healthy eating and exercise my true persona has finally emerged. Much like the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly.
My Focus with Others…
My focus is to share with others that it is never too late to do what truly calls to your soul. You may be asking yourself just that. How do I unearth what truly serves my highest soul calling in creating my authentic life?
Stay tuned for my March 4th blog post where I will be chatting about creating your authentic life “Word by Word: Journaling to an Authentic Life from A-Z.”
I am looking forward to chatting with you then. In the meantime, please feel free to ask your questions either in the comment section or via email.
Until then, the sky, is the limit!
